Cleric Tasks FG On Chibok Girls Rescue
The Federal Government
has been told to infuse greater urgency into effort to rescue the abducted students of Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State in view of the trauma their parents and siblings are going through,
Also the nation’s elite have been cautioned against the resort to the use of the students’ abduction to score political points.
Archbishop of Christ Healing Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. (Dr.) Benjamin Obomanu who made the call weekend in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for the success of the meeting he held last week with parents and 51 girls who escaped from the Boko Haram enclave, the religious leader urged the President to ensure the speedy return of the girls to their parents to avoid the death of more parents.
Noting that about 11 parents have already been reported dead since the abduction, Obomanu called on all Nigerians irrespective of political persuasion to show greater commitment to the safe return of the girls to their parents.
The religious leader who noted that the security challenges of the nation had heightened with the spate of suicide bombings and insurgency said religious leaders across the country have also intensified their fight against these ills from their pulpits.
Obomanu who is also the Director, National Issues and Social Welfare of the Rivers State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said religious and moral values of Christians were under siege, a development he said, had put the peace of society at risk. He said however, that in spite of the intensity of the machinations of the agents of the devil in society, religious leaders will continue to carry out their primary assignment of correcting the ills of society, praying for peace in all parts of Nigeria and the world at large and leading humanity back to God.
The Rivers CAN executive member, who is highly favoured to take over as chairman from Apostle Zilly Aggrey commended the out-going chairman for his achievements and assured that he would complete on-going programmes and projects and work with government to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for socio-economic development in the state.
