RSG Tasks Statisticians On Accurate Data
Rivers State Government has tasked statisticians on the production of accurate data for the development of the State.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Levi Gogo Charles, who gave the charge this during the inauguration of the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA), Rivers State, said that the government was in need of accurate data to drive development.
Charles also said that the Ministry has submitted proposals for the establishment of the State’s Bureau of Statistics but noted that the government was still sourcing for capable hands that would manage the Bureau.
He described the inauguration as very timely, stressing that it would go a long way in helping the state to overcome the challenges of planning for development.
The Commissioner also charged the new executive to ensure that the impact of the association was felt throughout the state.
Also speaking, a staff of the National Bureau of Statistics, Mallam Ismaila Oboh, warned members against involvement in partisan politics while ensuring that they carry their members along in the day-to-day running of the body.
He also urged them to establish local government chapters of the association across the 23 local government areas.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, who was represented by Mr. Rufus Diri, assured the association of support.
In a post-inaugural speech, the new state Chairman of the association, Dr. Camelite Agborubere, said the at the new executive would raise the profile of the association through reforms as well as link it with external bodies both within and outside the country.
She called for the support of all members, promising not to disappoint the state.
