Bakare, Cookey-Gam Task Govt On Quality Education
The fiery Lagos-based Pastor and serving Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has challenged the Federal Government to rescue the nation’s educational sector from crashing as a result of falling standard by adequately funding the sector.
The man of God threw the challenge at the third graduation/prize giving ceremony of Bloombreed High School, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Bakare, who was chairman of the occasion, said what Nigeria needed was to train the best brains that would take over the leadership of the country in the near future, and stressed that it was only well-funded qualitative education that could bring the urgently desired result.
He noted that every child desires qualitative education but remarked that nothing important or qualitative is cheap, and advised parents to always strive at good and qualitative education for their children and wards.
He expressed dismay that within the present school system, values and standards have been largely eroded.
“Nigerians are constantly inundated with scandalous stories of lecturers harassing students and making fortunes out of handouts and bribes while, among students, cultism and prostitution have become wide spread practice”, the pastor and social critic said.
Bakare lauded the proprietress of Bloombeed High School, Mrs Olufunke Sunmonu, for establishing the school without an intention of making financial profit but with the passion to give the students highly competitive and qualitative education that would enable them excel any where in the world as professionals.
Also speaking, the Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Mrs Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, commended Mrs Sunmonu for the vision, noting that she was proud of the quality of the school.
Cookey-Gam hailed the graduating students for their courage, spirit of hardwork and dedication, which saw them through the system, and remarked that what differentiates those who excel from others was determination to go the extra-mile.
Cookey-Gam, who was Special Guest of honour at the event, urged the students to always put in their best so as to actualize their destiny in life.
Earlier in her address, the Proprietress, Mrs Olufunke Sunmonu had said the dream of establishing the school was to provide opportunity for the children to access first class education that could make them stand out anywhere in the world.
Describing the school as British Council accredited, independent, Christian and residential high school, the proprietress advised the graduating students to always make themselves good ambassadors of the school wherever they might be.
“If there is only one thing I know about you today, it is that you have attended a first class school and have received first class education, a life changing education which the world stands to benefit from”, Mrs Sunmonu said.
