Sanitation Marshalls Want Lifting Of Ban On Enforcement
The Rivers State Min
istry of Environment has been urged to reconsider the ban on the enforcement of sanitation activities.
The co-ordinator, Rivers Sanitation Marshalls, Prince Sodin Akiagba who said this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said that the ban on enforcement of sanitation exercise is regularly affecting the rate of participation in sanitation exercises.
He said that because of the ban, some residents now go about their normal businesses during sanitation exercises, stressing that it is also affecting cleanliness in the city of Port Harcourt and environs.
Prince Akiagba suggested that having created much awareness among the people, the next option should be enforcement to ensure mass compliance.
He said,“we are asking the ministry to reconsider the ban on enforcement because it is affecting the city.
“People are no longer taking sanitation exercises seriously”.
Meanwhile, Prince Akiagba has called for a total banned on the continuous use of tyres to roast meat in Abattoirs.
He said that the state also need a committee to constantly monitor the activities of butchers in the various abattoirs across the State. Stressing that government should also ensure that butchers keep their abattoirs clean.”
