Former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Iris Zapatero has identified lack of ideology and inequality as major challenges confronting peace, security and socio-economic developments in African countries, including Nigeria.
The former Prime Minister stated this last Tuesday, at the Energy, Environment and Investment Forum organised by the Rivers State Government in Port Harcourt.
According to him, African Countries including Nigeria need to promote the rule of law and strong democracy that would anchor on good governance.
Zapatero attributed Insecurity on the African Continent to persistent rising rate of poverty and widening gap between the rich and the poor.
He said, there would be no development without the rule of law and democracy, stressing that, for Africa countries to improve on energy, there should be rule of law.
The former prime Minister listed transparency, accountability, Independent Media and good governance as the ideological answers for the societal development.
“A situation, where a nation facing all kinds of challenges like inequality, bad governance, poor education, health, energy and violence, which is very real in African counties, developments would be deterred”, he said.
Zapatero further called on Nigeria to advance in the World Union and African Union for rapid development and reduction of poverty.
Speaking on solar potentials, former Prime Minister of France, Francois Charles Fillion called on the Nigerian governments to start seeing solar energy as an alternative to oil and gas.
He explained that solar energy was more economical than oil and gas energy.
