Butchers Association Wants Dumpsite For Mile 3 Abbatoir
The Chairman of
Nkanu Butchers Association, Rumuelechi Abbatoir, Mile lll, Port Harcourt, Mr John Ozoemena, has called on the Rivers State Ministry of Environment to provide dumpsite for the abbatoir.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Mr Ozoemena said that the absence of a dumpsite was making it difficult for the butcher to check the rate of indiscriminate waste disposal in the area.
He said that this situation had led to the unsanitary condition of the abbatoir.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Nkanu Butchers Association, Mr John Ozoemena said, butchers in the abattoir had been warned against using tyres to roast meat in the abbatoir.
He told newsmen that all the butchers in the Rumuelechi Abattoir are now using firewood in the preparation of meat for sale.
The association chairman assured their readiness to cooperate with the government to improve the state of the abbatoir.
Also speaking, the chairman, goat section of the abbatoir, Mr George Mark, said that the butchers were ready to cooperate with the government to ensure a conducive environment for the operations.
He also commended the state Ministry of Environment for its support to the butchers.
