Rotary Club Gets Charter Certificate
The Rotary Club of Port
Harcourt Airfield District 9140 has been presented with a charter certificate by Rotary International District 9140.
The Governor of District 9140 Rotarian Charles Onianwa said that the establishment of the club was part of the expansion programme of Rotary International geared towards implementing programmes that address the needs of the community.
Rotarian Onianwa said that the new vision of the club are to ensure peace and conflict resolution and prevention in communities in the District, diseases prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, basic litracy programme as well as maternal and child health amongst others.
The District Governor also urged the club members to intensify their effort at membership drive with a view to promoting diversity in the club.
Also speaking, the Distrct Governor, Special Representatives (DGSR), Rotarian Ferdinand Banigo described Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Airfield, as a brand new member of Rotary International.
Rotarian Banigo said that Rotary’s 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million members serve communities around the world each with unique concerns and needs.
“Rotarians have continually adopted and improved the way they respond to those needs taking on a broad range of service projects,” he said. Also speaking, the President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, District 9140, Rotarian Chidi Ikeji said that the club is unrelenting in its pursuits to sponsor the emergence of new clubs.
Rotarian Ikeji said that the situation was in line with the desire to extend the services of Rotary to all the nooks and crannies of the society.
Earlier, in her acceptance speech, the President, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Airfield, Rotarian Nma Phil Onuigbo said that the new club has 34 members with diverse classifications.
Rotarian Onuigbo also said that the club has initiated series of seminars to enlighten its members.
