Patronise Our Products, NASSI Members Urge Govt
Members of the Bauchi
State chapter of Nigeria Association of Small Scale Industrialist (NASSI), have appealed to the state government to patronise their finished products.
Making the call on their behalf in an interview with newsmen last Thursday in Bauchi, Chairman of NASSI in the state, Malam Tijjani Jallaba, lamented that in spite of all the support received from the state government, patronage of their wares, was lacking.
According to him, small scale industrialists in the state are in dire need of patronage to remain in business.
He however commended the state government for supporting the growth of small scale industrialists in the state.
.Jallaba explained that the state government had, over the years, supported the association with capital, as well as interest-free loans to its members to set up their business.
.He said that the gesture had enabled many skilled youths to set up small industries, in the areas of tailoring, metal works, iron bending, carpentry, and machine fabrication.
“Start-up capital had always been our major challenge, but the government has done a lot in assisting us with the needed capital through the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative.
“The government gave our members loans, especially equipment loans, sometimes through our association, sometimes direct, and sometimes through the local government councils.
Jallaba added that the state government had also supported the association with a 50 KVA generator to cushion the effect of power outage, which remained the bane of small scale industries in the country..
He said another area they received tremendous support, was training, adding that the association had trained more than 200 youths in various skills in 2013, courtesy of the state government.
“We have trained 100 youths for Bauchi State Agency for Youths and Women Rehabilitation and Development. We have also trained about 100 youths for the Ministry of Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, all in 2013.
He further said that the association was also benefiting from state government’s high level training, under its Train the Trainer Scheme.
“We really appreciate the gesture, such support is significantly boosting our activities,“ he said.
