New Roads, Brigdes ’Il Enhance Dev -BYLG
Bayelsa State
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development Mr Lawrence Ewrudjiakpor has said that the on-going road and bridge constructions in the state will fortify development at all level’s.
Ewrudjiakpor was of the opinions that when the projects are completed many communities and villages would network which would not only enhance easy movement of goods and human but would encourage farmers and fishermen in the hinterlands to double their efforts
He said the state dreams to provide infrastructure, especially roads which will make Bayelsa one of the economic hubs of the nation, and also accelerate the much desired change.
“The roads would not only ease the chaotic traffic situation in the capital city but create an impact on economy development, especially in the area of agriculture.
“The on-going bridge construction, especially the Ogobiri-Toruebibi Bridge in Ekeremor Local government area will link communities from East-west and south of the state.
“When this is achieved, the state will have a road channel to run smooth business and farm produce will be easily transported to the city and other states of the federation.
“I should say that road is the first contact in developmental plan, so, that is why we embarked on road constructions network.
“The bridges across communities will also contribute immensely in checkmating sea pirates along the waterways,” Ewrudiakpor said.
He listed some of the on-going road constructions and bridges to include Bayelsa Palm link road, AIT road, Azikoro dual carriageway, Tolu-orua-Ekeremor Road, Toruebini Bridge, among others.
One of the contractors, Engr. Kamal Kawash, Project Manager, Setraco Construction Company in Bayelsa, who is handling Toruebeni-Ekeremor Bridge said that their work was at an advanced stage.
Kawash said that the bridge was one of the state government’s efforts to link communities and bring development to the people of Bayelsa.
“The bridge will be completed by end of June, 2014; right now, it is above 85 per cent completion and hope it will be commissioned by next months.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
