Delta Introduces E-bursary Registration To Check Fraud
The Delta Government
says it has introduced e-registration to check fraud in the state’s bursary and scholarship scheme for indigenous students in institutions of higher learning.
The Executive Secretary of the State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Mr Peter Amromanoh, said this known in an interview in Asaba on Sunday that the board had discovered that the manual registration of was characterised with frauds.
He said the scrapping of the manual registration done through students’ unions and institutions would enable the board to deal directly with the students.
The executive secretary also said that 21,500 students had so far benefited from the 2012/2013 bursary awards stating that the payment was ongoing due to the inability of some students to supply their correct bank details.
On criteria for benefitting, the board secretary said that any student with a Grade Point Average (G.P.A) of 2.2 and above was qualified to receive the award.
He also said that the students must also have their admission regularised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Amromanoh also said that over 150 Ph.D. and Master’s Degree students were also benefiting from the bursary and scholarship scheme of the state government.
