ONELGA Crisis: NYCN Sues For Peace
Worried by the spate of
social disorder following the recent dissolution of Omoku Youth Association and the Omoku Central Development Committee by the chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon Austine Ahiamadu, the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), ONELGA chapter, has sued for peace among the parties involved in the crisis.
In a press statement by the chairman of NYCN, Comrade Ezekudo Azubuike and Ordu Collins urged youths to give peace a chance to usher in the desired development in the area.
The youth leaders called on the youths of ONELGA and in particular, the Omoku youth to demonstrate wisdom in their demands, and ensure that they were not used as instrument of destabilisation.
The statement further called on all other youth bodies in ONELGA communities to remain peaceful and law abiding, emphasising that no meaningful development can be achieved in a situation of rancour and acrimony.
The statement also enjoined the youths of ONELGA to join the fight against poverty, unemployment, youth restiveness and other social vices which are detrimental to development, adding that the people of ONELGA are noted for their peaceful disposition.
The statement urged security agents to rise up to the challenges of their constitutional responsibility by ensuring that lives and properties protected.
The youth body lauded Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the chairman of the council, Hon Austin Ahiamadu for their effort to ensure good governance and urged them to use their good offices to ensure that peace returns to the area.
