Community Flays NDDC Over Road Project
The people of Oroigwe
Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have expressed dismay over the deplorable state of the Oroigwe, Eliozu Road, awarded for construction by the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC).
Paramount Ruler of Oroigwe Community, Eze Christain Tata, told newsmen that the deplorable state of the road project had caused untold hardship to residents of the community and other road users.
He said the road which had been abandoned since 2008, by the contractor, got worse every rainy season with residents abandoning their houses as a result of flooding.
The Oroigwe royal father also raised alarm over the collapse of the Eliozu bridge, built over four decades ago, through community effort, and expressed worry over the neglect of an important access road linking the four Oroigwe communities of Rumueohara, Rumunduru, Elimgbu and Eliozu.
He pointed out that the completion of the abandoned road project would enhance the overall economic development of the people and called on the authorities of NDDC to step up actions and fix the road without further delay to alleviate the plight of the people.
A visit to the Eliozu axis of the abandoned road project, shows that the narrow bridge is now a dead trap as it is in a state of collapse.
Some motorists who spoke with The Tide also appealed to NDDC to come to the aid of the people by completing the road project. There was also no trace of the contractor on site, to get their views on the state of the project.
