Mrs Amaechi Advocates Better Welfare For Security Operatives
As Nigerians join
Christians across the world to observe the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has advocated a proper legislation that would protect and enhance adequate welfare policy for families of security personnel who lost their lives while on national assignment.
Dame Amaechi stated this while playing host to the chairperson, Police Officers Wives Association POWA and wife of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Chinyere Ogunsakin who paid her a courtesy visit at Government House.
She stated that a proper welfare policy was imperative due to the security challenges in the country at the moment.
Governor Amaechi’s wife asserted that the raging insurgency in some parts of the country had taken a worrisome dimension, hence the need for review of welfare and compensation policy.
Mrs. Amaechi whose NGO, the Empowerment Support Initiative ESI has championed and sustained advocacy on the development of pre-school education in the country hinted of her determination to partner with POWA in driving the early childhood education initiative.
“Nigeria’s environment is highly vulnerable, we need to begin now to re-orientate the minds of our children at infancy, that’s why we have been able to established 36 permanent structures and 95 temporary sites of our early child-care development education in 95 communities, our desire is to grow leaders who will love themselves, their nation and compete favourably with their peers across the globe”.
She added that “children of security personnel especially the fallen ones are very important segment in her effort and determination to partner with POWA in driving the preschool education” adding that she would soon begin a scheme that would engage the economic future of widows of police officers who lost their lives while on active service.
Earlier in her speech, leader of POWA and wife of the commissioner of police, Rivers State, Mrs. Chinyere Ogunsakin said the group was pleased with the welfare programme of the governor’s wife and would want to identify with her in some area of mutual interest.
She appealed to governor’s wife to include wives of police officers in the state’s women empowerment scheme.
