Fish Farmers To Partner UNIDO On Improved Production
The Kebbi State chapter of
the National Association of Fish Farmers says it will partner the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to raise commercial production, processing and packaging of fish.
The state Chairman of the association, Alhaji Husseini Raha, made this known in an interview with in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Raha said that the association had registered 4,500 farmers in the management of fish ponds for commercial production.
According to him, the association is collaborating with UNIDO and SURE-P Trust Fund, to enhance fish production as well as provide employment and reduce poverty in the state.
“The association would accord priority to preservation and processing of the fish,” said the chairman.
He said that the association received 900,000 tonnes of feeds, two million fingerlings and 20 smoking kilns from the FAO, adding that the state government had also constructed five pilot fish ponds to train 10,000 youths in fish farming.
