Power Projects: Association Hails Amaechi Over N150m Fund
Association of Etche
Co-operative Unions has lauded the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi for his release of N150 million for the completion of on going rural electrification projects in Etche communities.
President of the association, Mr Godwin Akandu, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Friday said since the history of Etche, such firm step had not been taken by any government to help the people of the ethnic nationality.
Akandu said the association was full of thanks to the Governor for his magnanimity, stressing that if the communities were electrified, it would promote socio-economic development of the people.
“The electricity project would boost small and medium-scale enterprises and this would, in turn, reflect on the well-being of the people”, the association boss said.
He described electricity as one major problem frustrating the socio-economic development of the people and remarked that by such a bold step, the Governor has enmeshed his name in Gold as long as Etche is concerned.
Akandu expressed the readiness of the association to initiate some cottage industries with the collaboration of willing organisations to help local farmers.
“Garri processing machines and other small enterprises can now be a reality with the availability of light in all the communities in Etche”, he said.
He promised that the association was ready to support in the timely completion of the projects in whatever area needed and appealed to the Governor to take steps towards ensuring that contractors handling the projects deliver the job before the expiration of his administration.
