Windstorm Destroys Electric Poles In Ahoada, Choba
No fewer than 48 high
tension electric poles have been destroyed by windstorm at Ahoada, headquarters of Ahoada East and Choba in Obio/Akpor local government areas of Rivers State.
Consequently, residents of Choba, University of Port Harcourt area, Mgbuoba and its environs are now in total blackout.
The Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, Mr Obi Onuwah, who confirmed this to The Tide in a telephone interview, however, promised that the company was making efforts to restore power supply to the affected areas, noting that PHEDC engineers were on top of the situation.
“Our engineers are on top of the situation. In a couple of days, power supply would be restored to the affected communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the situation is seriously affecting business activities and social life in the areas. Mr Ferdinand Jaja, a student of the University of Port Harcourt, Choba, told The Tide in an interview, that for over six days, the area has been in total darkness.
Jaja urged the authorities of PHEDC to expedite action towards restoring electricity supply as residents of the areas are subjected to serious frustration.
Also speaking, Mr Nebot Ohiri, a barbing saloon operator, said the situation was compounding the frustration residents now face in view of the high fuel price.
