UNIPORT Lecturer Lauds RSNC On Industrial Training

sity of Port Harcourt, Pastor Emeka Iroham has stressed the need for students studying Mass Communication to acquaint themselves with the practical aspects of the course.
Pastor Iroham who is of the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies stated this yesterday when level 300 students of the department went for an excursion to the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) publishers of The Tide Newspaper. The lecturer said it was only when the students complemented theoretical aspect of the study learnt in the lecturerrooms with good practical exposures that the students would have full grasp of the course.
He explained that it was in the bid for good practical knowledge that the department made it a tradition to bring the students to the corporation yearly.
According to him, the authorities of the department chose RSNC because the corporation prides of the state of the art equipment as well as notable journalists with wealth of experience.
He said most of the students did their Industrial Training at RSNC and retuned to the school with commendable testimonies and practical knowledge and commended management of the corporation for the partnership and support given to the department.
The students numbering about 300 were conducted round various sections of the corporation by the Acting News Editor of The Tide, Dr Alpheaus Paul-Worika.
Earlier, co-coordinator of the students, Mr Jerry Nwihim said the one-day excursion became imperative in view of the fact that the students were to study Newspaper Magazine Production and Editing in the next semester. Miss Mary Michael, one of the students described the visit as a wonderful opportunity as she had acquired better practical understanding which would reflect on her studies.
Students president of the department, Mr Anokwuru Humphrey said the visit had equipped the students very well and commended the department and The Tide management for the opportunity.
