Group Flays FG Over Youth Unemployment
The Patriotic Youths
Alerts Network, a non-governmental organisation, has blamed the high level of unemployment of Nigerian youths on the lack of commitment of the Federal Government towards youth employment.
President of the organisation, Comrade Emmanuel Orgwu, stated at Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, recently, while addressing newsmen after a special session of the body.
Reacting to the Immigration Service recruitment tragedy, which claimed the lives of youths, Comrade Orgwu, said the unfortunate incident was a reflection of the “frustrating state of unemployment among youths, despite Federal Government’s avowed commitment to the creation of jobs”.
According to Comrade Orgwu, “a situation where, 25,000 people will go to a capacity stadium of N15,000, scramble for a few existing jobs, exposed the phantom and shallow position of the Federal Government on youth’s employment”.
He emphasised the need for the Federal Government to diversify the economy to create opportunities for youths in entrepreneurial development and wealth creation in various sectors.
He pointed out that many countries in the world with relatively stable economy were not as endowed as Nigeria in terms of human and natural resources, and attributed the cause of poverty in Nigeria to bad governance.
Orgwu, also disclosed that the organisation was poised to conscienitise members to be instruments of change by projecting good governance in Rivers State and Nigeria in general.
He said youths should resist being used as pawns in the game of politics and be prepared to vote out bad leaders.
He said the campaign against bad governance would be carried across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.
In his remark, the Coordinator of the group in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Amadi Cbibuzor Anayor, said the body would remain committed to its objectives of youth’s sensitisation and mobilisation for good governance in Nigeria.
