RSG To Transform D/Line To Modern City – Giadom
The Commissioner for
Works, Rivers State, Hon. Victor Giadom has reiterated Government’s commitment to transforming D/Line axis of Port Harcourt to a modern city.
Giadom while briefing newsmen in his office recently said the state government would ensure that each street is built with street light, modern drainage system and pedestrian walk-way, stressing, that is to transform the area.
He disclosed that over forty roads in the area are being reconstructed at the same time, and called on the people of the state to appreciate the noble effort of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
According to him, greater progress had been made on the reconstruction work so far, adding that the contractors handling the project have already laid asphalt on Kaduna Street, adding that the other roads would also be over-laid with asphalt.
In his words, “I am sure you are aware of a lot of changes we have brought in D/Line part of Port Harcourt where all the roads are under reconstruction; all the roads would now have pedestrian walk-ways. This is an improvement.
It is important for people to appreciate that the Governor is doing all the roads in the area the same time. It is our desire to also ensure that all the roads have street lights and modern drainages. These are meant to transform the area”.
It would be recalled that the Commissioner last year briefed the press on the award of the D/Line road reconstruction contract and assured that the State Government intend to transform the area to a status of a modern city as in the western world.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works has announced the closure of the second lane of Eleme Flyover Junction for maintenance.
A statement from the office of the Commissioner for Works, Hon Victor Giadom said the contractors handling the job, Messrs Julius Berger had commenced the repair works on the flyover and advised motorists and commuters to follow the diversion pointers while plying the route.
The Ministry regrets any inconveniencies the temporary closure of the lane would cause the public, adding that work is expected to be completed in four weeks time.
