Holy Rosary College Seeks Partnership For Sports
Authorities of the
Holy Rosary College, Port Harcourt have appealed to individuals, corporate bodies and philanthropists to partner with the school in the area of sports development.
Principal of the College, Barr Veronica Efika who made the call Saturday, at the forth edition of the school’s inter-house competition, challenged Old Girls of the school, parents and guardians to build sports facilities such as football pitch, basket ball and tennis courts among others.
“We need you to partner with us for the proper development of these children, intellectually physically, and morally”, the principal said.
Efika stated that sports have come to be valued not just for entertainment and improvement of physical well-being but also for the exposure, fame and wealth that come with it.
Chairman of the event, Rev Tony Osakuni Obi called on schools, Ministry of Education and Sports as well as other stakeholders not to relent in developing sports for the balanced education of the child.
Rev Obi who traced the history of inter-house Sports to England noted that the idea has become prevalent among common wealth countries as students avail themselves of the opportunity to showcase various talents through physical and mental competition.
The man of God agreed with the principal on the need for partnership with Holy Rosary in developing sports for the proper development of the students.
In his remark, the Chairman, Catholic Education Board, Port Harcourt Diocese, Rev (Fr) Joseph Kabari lauded the management of the school for hardwork and dedication to duty stressing that the importance of sports cannot be over-emphasised in the development of the total child.
Kabari who was the Special Guest of Honour reiterated the commitment of the board to the upliftment of education in the society irrespective of the denomination or religion.
At the end of the competition, Red House emerged over all winner with a total of 200 points, Blue House came second with 156 points while the third position went to White House with 146 points.
