Delta Assembly Harps On Completion Of Airport
Delta State House
Committee on Finance and Appropriation and the Directorate of Special Infrastructure last Tuesday tasked the contractor handling the Osubi International airport on timely completion of the project.
The committee Chairman, Mr Daniel Mayuku, gave the task when the committee inspected the project site in Osubi.
Mayuku, who stressed the importance of the airport project to the state government, urged the contractor to ensure that 80 per cent of the project was completed before the end of 2015.
According to him, the project was very dear to the administration of Emmanuel Uduaghan and will want the project completed before the end of his tenure.
Mayuku noted that the project, when completed, would ease the stress of travelling to Port Harcourt and Lagos by the people of the state to board international flights.
Conducting the team round the project, the contractor handling the expansion of the airport, CCC Construction Company Limited, said that the work would be completed on schedule.
Mr Bassam Kawash, the Area Managing Director of the company, said that work included the construction of additional 4km runway, terminal building, air force base and airport hanger.
Kawash said that the project would be about 80 percent completed by 2015.
“We will do as much as possible to take advantage of the dry season in order to deliver the project on scheduled, ’’ he said.
On the non-engagement of the indigenes on the site, the contractor assured that henceforth the company would engage more people from the communities.
He assured the communities that the company would help to train the people on the job, instead of engaging only skilled workers from outside the state
