SURE-P To Engage 2,000 Youths In A’Ibom
No fewer than 2,000 youths and women are to be recruited this year in Akwa Thorn State under the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).
Chairman of the implementation committee of the programme in the state, Cdr Idongesit Nkanga (rtd), who disclosed this to newsmen Monday in Uyo, said the beneficiaries were to be engaged in community service.
Nkanga said the figure would be in addition to the 3,000 employed in the state in March last year at the inception of the programme.
The chairman said the 2,000 women and youths would be engaged in community service such as clearing of roads and public buildings.
“We recruited 3,000 people in the first phase and we are about recruiting additional 2,000. We are going to have a meeting with the desk officers to get people ready, and once we get the directive, we will start the recruitment,” he said.
He said that the committee would continue to improve on its successes in Akwa Thorn, with a view to sustaining it after the present administration had left office.
