Poly Strike: Union Berates FG
The Auchi Polytechnic
Chapter of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) yesterday held a rally to protest the Federal Government’s refusal to negotiate with the union on labour issues.
Members of the union who took their protest letter to the Rector of the institution, Mrs Philipa Idogho, said that the government had refused to attend to their plight.
The union had embarked on strike for three months following their demands for the payment of arrears of CONTISS 15, Migration of NASU members and the Re-negotiation of the 2010 FG/NASU agreement for the polytechnics.
Other demands are the budgetary provision for the continued implementation of CONTISS 15 Migration, inclusion of NASU members in the assessment committee of public polytechnics and adequate funding of polytechnics in the country.
The Union’s Chapter Chairman, Mr Andrew Oshiogbele, said that the Federal Government had refused to return to the negotiation table with the union, saying that it led to the indefinite strike since November 4, 2013.
“The Federal Government had refused to negotiate with the union and we decided to hold a rally to call on the government to negotiate with us and meet our demands.
“The non-implementation of these demands is responsible for the ongoing strike by our members nationwide,” he said.
Addressing the union, the Rector of the institution, Mrs Idogho, advised them not to take laws into their hands while protesting.
She said their letter would be sent to the appropriate authority for redress.
