Bayelsa PDP: Two Lists Of LG Election Candidates Emerge
The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) is now in dilemma over which list of candidates submitted by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to accept in the local government elections scheduled for April.
This is because two lists are now before the commission, one earlier submitted by the embattled chairman of the party, Chief Rufus Abadi and another one submitted by the secretary on Tuesday.
The submission of two lists has shown that the deep crack in the leadership of the party is yet to be amended despite the intervention of the national secretariat.
The list prepared by the secretary, Mr James Agary, an informed source said, is illegal, because he did not seek the permission of the national secretariat in Abuja.
The source said it is the duty of the chairman, empowered by the constitution of the party, to prepare list of candidates and not the secretary.
However, Agary’s faction is questioning the power of the chairman to compile list of candidates, when he was not part of the primary elections that produced the candidates.
The faction described Abadi’s action as a nullity and amounts to an anti-party behaviour, which required serous sancations.
According to them, during recent peace parley at Abuja, Chief Abadi and his supporters had been advised to apologise to the Governor and other party members over his behaviours, and wondered why the man who claimed to be in hiding is still being mischievous.
Recently, Chief Abadi had raised alarm claiming that some cabal in the party were after his job and had concluded plans to remove him. The alarm has since proved to be a hoax as the recent meeting, where the new list was prepared was silent on his position.
