Road Construction Paralyses Activities At Rumuokoro Park
Loading and off-load
ing of passengers have been suspended temporarily at the Rumuokoro Motor Park in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
has gathered that the reason for the temporary suspension was as a result of the on-going road construction work going on along the East-West Road, which has affected movement of vehicles to the park.
A visit to the area revealed that the entrance to the two gates of the Motor Park has been grossly obstructed, as vehicles could no longer move into or out of the park, as a result of the trench dug by the construction company.
Vehicles were seen loading and off-loading passengers by the road side, especially those who ply the Choba axis and beyond, which has caused some traffic problems.
The spokes person of the park, Mr. Ikechukwu Orlu who is also the secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as well as the chairman, could not be reached, as they are not steady in the office.
However, transport operators who spoke to The Tide on the matter were of the view that the situation is a temporary one, and that normal transport business operations will resume, as soon as the side affecting the motor park is clear.
Meanwhile, one lane of the road is now in use, as the construction firm has tarred it, giving room for smooth movement.
