Ekiti Issues Two-Month Ultimatum To Contractors
The Ekiti State Government last Thursday issued a two-month ultimatum to contractors handling its projects to complete and deliver their jobs or face the wrath of the law.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Millennium Development Goals and Development Relations (MDGs), Mrs Bunmi Dipo-Salami, issued the ultimatum at a meeting with the contractors in Ado Ekiti.
Dipo-Salami said that the contracts, especially those affecting local government areas, would be executed through insurance performance bond.
She said the contractors had no reason to complain since 30 per cent mobilisation fees would be paid to facilitate speedy execution of the projects.
The aide said that the projects would be funded though a tripartite arrangement involving the Federal, State and Local Governments.
Dipo-Salami advised contractors to be committed to their jobs and strive toward achieving a cordial relationship with the MDGs office built on trust and mutual respect.
One of the contractors, Mr Segun Oluwole, pledged that they would not renege to deliver the jobs in record time and specification.
He commended the MDGs office for its introduction of the insurance performance bond, which he described, as innovative.
According to him, the gesture will facilitate easy delivery of their jobs and guarantee quality job from the contractors.
Our correspondent reports that projects being executed by the Ekiti State MDGs Scheme include drilling of bore holes, construction of blocks of classrooms, procurement of ambulances and medical equipment.
The others include renovation of health facilities, rehabilitation of rural roads among others in the local government areas of the state.
