Lagos Trains 15,340 Teachers In Three Years
The Lagos State Teachers Establishment and Pensions Office (TEPO) said recently that it had trained 15,340 teachers in leadership and management courses in the last three years.
Mrs Antem Aromolaran, the Director, Training and Staff Welfare of the organisation, told our correspondent in Lagos that the teachers were drawn from the six education districts in the state.
Aromolaran said 5,569 of the teachers, who were on Grade Level 13 and above, were trained in 2011, 8,096 in 2012 and 1,675 in 2013.
She said that the training equipped the teachers with leadership skills in the day-to-day administration of their schools as they attained managerial position.
“The training is very essential for the teachers because it prepares and empowers them for administrative roles”, he said, adding that the teachers were initially employed as teachers but are being converted to principals, vice principals, tutors-general, permanent secretaries and other management positions as their careers progress over the years.
He explained that the Lagos State Government has identified training as a key tool to improve standard of education and we are very committed to the training and retraining of our personnel.“
According to her, about 1,800 teachers on Grade Level Seven and above were also trained in 2013 on various subjects.
