‘Rivers Lawmakers Envisage More Persecutions In 2014’
Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi have vowed to fight on for the enthronement of democracy in the country even as they envisage more persecutions in 2014.
Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Leyii Kwanee, who stated this on Monday in Port Harcourt, accused the Federal Government of using federal agencies to persecute those loyal to Governor Amaechi and other Governors who have left the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
Kwanee further condemned the actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which Monday arrested 11 lawmakers of Kano State House of Assembly.
According to him, “as we journey on in our democratic process, we are likely to experience more persecutions, but we, the pro-Amaechi lawmakers are resolute and committed to ensuring a better democracy in the country.”
The Deputy Speaker commended the media for standing for Justice and truth, stating that the results of their efforts in sustaining the democratic process in the country are encouraging.
“When some anti-democratic agents came with plans to stage a civilian coup to topple the House Leadership, the media stood and reported correctly on the developments in the House for the sake of democracy,” he said.
He, however, urged the media to continue in that direction as he assured that whatever comes their way, history and generations yet unborn will not forget their contributions to sustain Nigeria’s democracy.
