FCTA Disbands Queens FC
The Minister of State for
the FCT, Mrs Jumoke Akinjide, has approved the disbandment of the FCT Queens Female Football Club of Abuja from its operations, an official has said.
The Secretary of Social Development Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Mrs Blessing Onuh, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.
The statement quoted Akinjide to have said the disbandment was based on financial and professional problems.
“The decision was necessitated by the need to have a world-class female football club suitable for the state.
“The club has series of financial and professional problems which have caused a gross under-performance in the field of play”, she said.
The minister said the FCTA was working towards getting the organised private sector involved in the promotion of sports in the territory by overseeing the club’s affairs.
She said the new FCT Queens FC would have a management board registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and would run its activities effectively to attract sponsorship.
“I hereby assure the sports loving residents that the new FCT Queens FC will have a management board that will run its activities for better.
“The team will have an efficient management and performance, and will as well be registered with the CAC to attract sponsorship and endorsement,’’ the minister said.
FCTA had on November 13 paid the sum of N69,175,800, being an accumulated debt owed the club’s players and officials.
The payment include the unpaid sign-on fees for players and officials for years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013, as well as 2012 and 2013 salary arrears.
The payments were also for accumulated match fees, allowances and bonuses for years 2012 and 2013, as well as debts incurred by the club ahead of the 2007 season.
The youngest swimmer discovered during the National School Sports Festival held in Port Harcourt, last year.

The Fiesta scheduled to hold on the 13th December, 2025, at Eddiz wine bar GRA, promises to be all football fans carnival in the State , as there will be a lot of fanfares.
The Coordinator of Port Harcourt Arsenal Community (PHAC), Ugochukwu Oputa has said that the forthcoming Football Fans Fiesta was basically to promote peace, unity and love among football fans in irrespective of the cub.
He stated that sports is a catalyst to bring peace, love and Unity in any given society, hence the occasion was initiated.
Oputa said this in an interview with sports journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, saying that arrangements are on top gear for a successful programme.
” This event is for all football fans irrespective of your club. It is basically to promote peace, love and Unity among fans.
“It is like stating the obvious that football is the catalyst of peace and unity in the world. So the Port Harcourt Arsenal Community want to use this avenue to bring people together and foster friendship.
“There is no gate fee, but it is expected to put on jersey of your club as to make the event look unique” Oputa said.
The Coordinator used the forum to advice football fans in the world to love one another, and equally urged fans that will attend the occasion to be of good conduct and behaviour.

Liverpool’s season of abject misery worsened as they were beaten with embarrassing ease by a hugely impressive Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Liverpool could barely raise a response in a desperate display, Forest increasing their lead 12 minutes from time when Morgan Gibbs-White scored after Alisson saved from Omari Hutchinson.
It means Liverpool, who lie 11th before Saturday’s late fixture, have now lost six of their past seven Premier League games as Slot’s near £450m summer spending spree comes under further scrutiny.
Forest, meanwhile, are surging away from the relegation zone and are up to 16th.
