PHCCIMA Holds Rex Lawson’s Concert, Nov 30
In a conscious attempt to
honour, celebrate and immortalise the monumental legacies of legendary highlife king, Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson, the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) will in conjunction with Rex Lawson Centre for Peace, Conflict Resolution and Culture, organise a special musical night tagged “Rex Lawson Concert” during the forthcoming 9th Port Harcourt International Trade Fair, 2013.
President of the Chamber, Engr. Emeka Unachukwu, dropped this hint during a meeting with members of the centre at PHCCIMA Conference Hall in Port Harcourt recently. He said the essence was to immortalize the late high life musical icon.
Unachukwu said the Rex Lawson night scheduled for November 30th, 2013, at the Trade Fair complex, Isaac Boro Park would among other things feature renowned artistes that would sing Rex Lawson highlife music throughout the night as a dedication to the legend.
He hinted that prior to that day, the center would visit the tomb of the late Highlife King in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State to lay a wreath in his memory as well as organize a road show round Port Harcourt to sensitise the people of the state and keep his memory alive.
The PHCCIMA boss also noted that arrangements are in the offing to open a museum where lyrics, shoes, cap, wears, trumpet and other artifacts of the late Rex Lawson would be kept for tourist attractions, reminiscent of what the Lagos State government is doing with Fela Shrine in Lagos .
Unachukwu promised to carry all stakeholders .along in projecting the life and times of the late musical-maestro, Cardinal Jim Rex Lawson including the media, adding that before the main artistes performed on stage on that D-day, there would be Command Performance by the survivors of Rex Lawson’s band like Elder Tony Odili and King Sunny Brown.
He further disclosed that committees had been set up to work out the modalities for a successful outing and to review the book on Jim Rex Lawson that would be launched on that day as well as documentation of the foundation in the constitution to include some key areas, like his family people involved and his activities.
The President hinted that a new Board of Trustees would be constituted in order to include interested and serious-minded persons that would add value to the organisation.
