Community Accuses Total ELP Of Destabilisation Plot
The Obiyebe Community
in the Ogba Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has accused the management of Total ELP of a purported plot to destabilise it through the planned dethronement of its Paramount Ruler. Ochi-Oha II Eze Zion- Omekwe.
Addressing newsmen in the community on Monday, the eldest man in the community Elder Benjamin Oji alleged that, the management of the company was not happy with the paramount ruler who is at the forefront of the on-going legal suit against it for a billion naira compensation claim in respect of long years of oil and gas exploration and its attendant consequences on the community.
He also described the role some elites from the area were playing in the whole incident as selfish and uncivilised, noting that the people will not succumb to it.
In his words; “Looking at the whole scenario and the selfish individual in the abominable act, members of the community observed that the whole incident was being stage managed by Total ELP who presently have a case in court with the community and looking for ways to destabilise the community through some elites who are closer to them.”
Elder Oji also described the purported removal of the paramount ruler as the highest abomination in the community as the paramount ruler stool can only be vacant upon death.
“From the communities history, that is one of the highest abomination ever committed in the community as no one attempts the removal and replacement of an incumbent of a sacred stool like that of Ochi-Oha (paramount ruler) without genuine reason that must be approved by the entire community, irrespective of one’s position in the society.
“A situation where an incumbent paramount ruler is still alive and without being convicted of any allegation either traditionally or in any court of competent jurisdiction and is assumed to have been hurriedly replaced, leaves a lot of questions in the minds of the community members on the reason behind such abominable act” he said.
Elder Oji who urged the management of Total ELP to leave the community alone, also advised the general public to discountenance the purported removal of HRH Eze Zion Nwabueze Omekwe as the paramount ruler of the community.
