Bishop Tasks Church On Selfless Service
The Bishop of the Rivers
Diocese of the African Church, Rt. Rev Aki Falana, has charged members of the church to remain committed and faithful to the vision and spiritual insight of the founding fathers of the church as a mark of gratitude and service to God.
The Bishop gave the charge in Port Harcourt last Saturday during a fund-raising dinner organised by the Our Saviour African Church Cathedral, Buguma City, in Asari Toru Local Government Area as part of activities to mark the centenary celebration of the church.
According to the Bishop, the best form of showing appreciation to God for the 100 years of existence of the church was for members to continue to support God’s work through selfless service and thanksgiving.
Bishop Falana said the theme of the celebration, “God’s Faithfulness” was apt noting that God had fulfilled His promise to the church, and it was time for the church to honour God through service. The Bishop recalled that the founding fathers of the church gave their all to establish the church, pointing out that the successive generations must remain committed to those ideals to attract God’s blessing.
In his remark, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Ombo Princewill said the centenary celebration of the church was a major achievement that provided a platform for members to reflect on the humble and tedious beginning of the founding fathers.
The chairman who was represented by Mr Obia Marshal appealed to the members to the members to sustain the legacies of the founding fathers of the church by improving on what they left behind.
Also speaking, the Royal father of the day, Justice Adulphus Karibi White, expressed gratitude to God over the centenary celebration of the church. Justice Karibi White who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Qua Culture and Deep Sea Fishing, Kuro Birggs also called for the expansion of the church to justify the efforts of the founding fathers.
In his response, the chairman of the centenary planning committee, Hon Eddie Dakoru, said the church which was first established in Buguma in 1913 had grown into 17 branches, and thanked God for his steadfastness to the church. He said the fund raising dinner as part of the weeklong activities to celebrate the centenary was to build a befitting Cathedral for the church.
