RSTDA Boss Explains 2013 CANIRIV
The Director-General, Riv
ers State Tourism Development Agency, Mr Sam Dede, said yesterday that new incentives would be offered in this year’s Rivers cultural festival, known as CARNIRIV.
Dede said in Port Harcourt that the boat regatta event would be expanded to accommodate a big floating stage for a live band during the festival scheduled for December 15 to December 21.
He said the boat regatta’s debut last year drew a large crowd and was a huge success.
“Some of the events have been properly repackaged, re- branded, reloaded for this special edition. For instance, the boat regatta event, we tried it last year on a small-scale and it drew a massive crowd.
“We want to put a big floating stage on the river, where we are going to have artistes performing. One of those lined up to perform on that stage will be a very big artiste in the country.
“So, the entire old Port Harcourt town axis is going to be properly mobilised for that event because it takes place at the tourist beach.“
Dede said another incentive to be on offer at this year’s event would be special fire works for the opening and closing ceremonies.
“The carnival village will also bubble. That will be the place to go to because there will be massive concerts every day and other side attractions.
“If the carnival does not bring Port Harcourt city to a standstill, then it is not a carnival; and we intend to do that. Everybody must stop to celebrate the carnival,“ Dede said.
