First African Church Honours 29 Women
St. Stephen First African
Church, Omoku, Ogba Diocese was last Sunday full to the brim when 29 virtuous women of the church were honoured by the Diocesan Bishop, Rev Ogbonnaya John for being role models, who had contributed immensely to the development of the society and Christendom.
Out of the 29 honoured, one was special adviser, two golden mothers, 15 Nne-Omas (good mothers) and nine patronesses.
Among the Golden mothers, was Lady Roseline Nanu Eke, whom the Church mentioned for special recognition for being not only a role model for younger generations of women, but for also mobilizing her family resources to build the Akabta branch.
Appreciating the awardees, Rev. John, said women should regard themselves as special vessels through which positive societal change could be achieved.
He said, “the heights you have achieved today is not ordinary, use it for the glory of God, use the award as recognition for further sacrifice, use it to emancipate womanhood, so that your efforts will not be in vain, as greater rewards await you when Christ will come”.
The man of God, however, warned the women against using their new position to impose their personal wills on the church, display selfishness and autocratic in dealing with other members of the congregation.
Speaking to The Tide after the award, Lady Eke who expressed appreciation to the church said she feels elated, adding that, she will dedicate the award to God, who had made it possible.
Though, not surprise, as according to her, many other awards had been giving to her before, saying it takes hard work, tolerance and perseverance to gain recognition of the church.
Lady Eke blamed society ills on majority of the women who had abandoned their duties in chase of vain glories, saying “the society would be better if women could take adequate attention about the character, and behaviour of children”.
“Refining the society begins from the home, and every woman should take this as responsibility, in order to build a home that is worth of emulation.
