The erst-while Chairman of
the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Ndutimi Alaibe has been appointed Chairman of Bayelsa State Tourism Development Board.
The Board which also has Chief Ephraim Fallogi, Fred Nyanayo, Rtd Air Vice Marshall Atti Samuel, Honorables Fyneman Wilson, Claudius Enegsi, Mr Solomon Apreala and Miss Bini Ayafa as members is expected to among other things bring the proposed Tourism Island to its full bloom and reckoning.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Maxson Daniel-Iworiso, the “Tourism Island, expected to form an integral part of the new Yenagoa City, spanning over 15,000 hectres lying betweenthe Epie Creek and River Nun stretching from Igbogene to Tombia in the North down to Yenaka will be more of a private sector driven project.”.
Dickson expressed the hoped that, the new Tourism Development Board, made up of persons of proven integrity and disposition, will use their wealth of experience in the times past to attract the much needed private sector participation as well as translate government’s dream of developing a flourishing world class tourism facility to reality.
The Tourism Island, which is already in the early stages of what is expected to be a robust project will have facilities such as a 6-star hotel, an 18 hole- Professional Golf Association (PGA) Golf Course, World class Polo field among other facilities.
Having identified Tourism as having the potentials to stabilize the post oil and gas economy of the State, Government is leaving no stone unturned in its commitment to fully develop the sector, especially the Tourism Island.
“With the confidence reposed in the Chief Timi Alaibe led board and knowing them for their vast experience and antecedents, it is clear that, Bayelsa will within the foreseeable future become an international tourism hub and destination”, the statement Said.
