Eid-El Kabir: IGP Tasks Commands On Security
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday ordered all heads of operational units of police commands and formations nationwide to put in place high visibility policing strategies for the Sallah celebration.
Abubakar said that the strategies must be targeted at achieving a secured, peaceful and incident-free celebration.
The directive was contained in a signal addressed to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of zonal commands as well as commissioners of police in charge of states and the FCT.
He also directed commanders in charge of the Special Forces, Air Wing, Maritime Command, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Border Patrol Unit to ensure strategic deployment of their personnel and logistics.
According to him, this is to ensure that all criminal threats are effectively checked.
“Commands’ Commissioners of Police are to adequately protect all essential infrastructure and vulnerable points including highways, motor parks, places of worship, shopping malls and recreation centres.
“In addition, Commanders of Police Mobile Force Squadrons are to ensure that their respective Quick Reactionary Units remain on high alert throughout the holiday period,” he said.
He said while the nation may be on holiday during the festival, policemen were expected to remain at their beats and posts.
Abubakar charged the personnel deployed for the festival to conduct themselves in a professional manner in line with the Force code of conduct, ethics and other extant laws regulating the rules of engagement.
He also urged them to be mindful of the fundamental rights of citizens while discharging their responsibilities.
The police boss rejoiced with Muslims in the country on the Eid-el-Kabir and prayed Allah to grant the nation the grace to overcome its current challenges.
