RSG Woos Investor On Fish, Livestock Feeds Production
The Rivers State Gov
ernment says, any investment in the production of fish and livestock feeds in the state will yield maximum return on investment, and therefore a good business portfolio to explore.
The permanent secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart, who said this while declaring open a sensitisation seminar for fish farmers on the new fish feeds, said that the government was ready to cooperate with investors in the production of fish and livestock feeds.
Dr. Hart said that the new fish feeds produced by an American Company was cost effective as well as rich in nutrients.
He said that the product will boost fish production in the state, thereby, translating to improved wellbeing for farmers.
Represented by the Director, Fisheries, Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Daniel Ogbumgbada, also said that the ministry was desirous of ensuring that all fish farmers in the state have access to the product to boost fish production.
The permanent secretary also advised the farmers to make the best use of the opportunity to improve their wellbeing.
Also speaking, the representative of Cargill Animal Nutrition Limited, Mr. Sunday Olarenwaju Johnson, said that the introduction of the new product to the Nigerian market was part of the move to complement government’s effort in the production of fish in the country.
Johnson, said that the programme will help farmers to increase their contribution to the agricultural sector of the economy as well as provide gainful employment to unemployed youth in the country.
According to him, the programme, which started in the south western part of Nigeria, will be replicated in the entire country.
More than 2,000 farmers attended the seminar, which held at the Port Harcourt City Council Hall, Port Harcourt.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
