Agency Disburses N200m For Micro Projects
Akwa Ibom State Agency for
Community and Social Development (AKACSD) last Tuesday said it disbursed a total of N200 million for rural micro-projects in the state.
The agency is funded by Akwa Ibom government in partnership with the World Bank for the implementation of micro-projects in rural communities of the state.
The Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr Sunny Ayang, who disclosed this in Uyo at the 5th session of fund disbursement to benefiting communities said that the programme was part of government agenda to transform rural communities.
Ayang urged the benefiting communities to be prudent in the management of the funds meant for the implementation of stipulated micro projects in their respective communities.
“If you are found wanting with the funds under your control you will be sanctioned and handed over to the appropriate quarters,” Ayang warned.
He said that the beauty of the programme was the fact that the participating communities made the choice of the micro-projects for their respective communities.
In his speech, the General Manager of AKACSD, Mr Ishmael Akpan, said that the funds for the micro-projects were released in trenches to the benefiting communities explained that funds disbursed to the communities were based on landmark attained by each project.
He said that 15 out of the 31 local government areas of the state were participating in the scheme and called on the other 16 local government areas that were yet to pass bye-laws on AKACSD to quickly do so for them to benefit from the scheme.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting communities, Mr Essang Eso, Urueoffong-oruku community, said that his community would ensure judicious application of the fund given them.
He lauded the state government for initiating the programme, which he said, would go a long way to bring succour to the rural dwellers.
The micro-projects being implemented in the rural communities include bore hole, civic centre, health centre, rural electricity project, construction of culverts for drainage control, skill acquisition centres and building of classroom blocks, among others.
