Commissioner Denies Nursing Guber Ambition
Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon Joe Poroma has dispelled rumours making the rounds that he intends to contest 2011 guber elections in Rivers State. Reacting to the development in a chat with journalists, Hon Poroma said such rumours are the fabrication of those who are peddling them saying he doesn’t intend to contest election wondering why such news should be carried against him. He described the rumours as unfounded and lacking truth since he is still serving the state through his office. On the issue of nursing grudges against the governor, the commissioner said it was total lie to insinuate such, noting that he has enjoyed good working relationship with the state chief executive, who out of his large heart appointed him a commissioner. The commissioner rejected the view that his ministry was lagging behind since all efforts have been put in place to ensure that all financial allocations meant for it were released and used. He stated that though he came back to the Ministry to discover some financial impropriety, things have been sorted out to check it in the future. Hon Poroma called on the general public to disregard rumours and other disparaging allegations on his person, stating that such was the handiwork of mischief makers. The social welfare commissioner called on the good people of Rivers State to support the Governor Amaechi led government as it is the best thing that has happened to Rivers people. He warned rumour peddlers and distractors to engage in meaningful activities and not in ventures that would polarise the state by raising tension.
