Centre Introduces Sugar Craft To Empower Women
The National Centre for
Women Development (NCWD) on Saturday said it had introduced a short term programme in conventional and sugar craft to empower women.
Mr Sadeeq Omar, Director Planning, Research and Statistics of the centre said this to the newsmen in Abuja.
He said that the programme was introduced to ensure that women were trained in the area of baking of bread and cake.
He said the participants of the training were expected to learn everything they needed to know about baking of bread and different types of cake within a month.
The director said that the programme was for all women including graduates, working class and the illiterate.
“At the centre we carry out training in vocation studies and our skills acquisition programme in details.
“Two months ago we graduated 2,000 students in skills acquisition and 25 students in conventional and sugar craft.
“Some graduates now come to learn skills because most of them cannot get white collar job,’’ Omar said.
He said that the conventional and sugar craft class was divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon, saying this was to enable all categories of student to attend the class.
He added that at the skills acquisition class women also learnt how to manage home and keep simple business records to empowered their homes
Omar said that at the completion of the classes, the student would be equipped with some starter packs as basic equipment needed to start off small businesses.
He said one of the challenges faced by students was lack of fund to start up businesses.
