Council Charges New Pharmacists On Professionalism
Pharmacy ?graduates of the University of Port Harcourt has been told to always work hard and contribute to the development of the country’s health sector.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Acting Registrar, Mrs Gloria Abumere gave the advice recently in Port Harcourt during the induction of 38 gratuates of Pharmacy.
.?Abumere reminded the young graduates of the need to undertake a 12-month internship training in order to get exposed to practical applications of the theories they were thought in school, assuring that the UNIPORT pharmacy graduates would be fully certified to practice as professionals in the country after their registration with the council.
In her keynote address, an expert in the health sector, Dr. Elizabeth Didia, identified the chaotic drug distribution system in the country as a major challenge to pharmacy in Nigeria.
Didia, a Director in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, observed that the responsibility of distributing drugs was largely in the hands of untrained traders operating from illegal drug markets.
Also, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Joseph Ajienka congratulated the newly inducted pharmacists.
Ajienka disclosed that the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science had grown to become an institutional member of the International Pharmacist Federation based in Holland.
