Tanker Driver, Conductor Docked Over Alleged Fuel Theft
A tanker driver and his conductor, who allegedly stole 3,600 litres of petrol valued at N350, 000, were on Thursday charged before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Akeem Lateef, 22, and Oladele Oladayo, 21, who reside at Igando area of Lagos State, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Femi Adeleye, told the court that the offences were committed on July 17, at about 4.00 p.m. at No. 154, Ikotun Road, Igando.
Adeleye said that the driver of the tanker with reg. no. APP 22 XC, loaded 33, 000 litres of petrol, but colluded with his assistant to steal 3,600 litres, property of Bamol Petrol Station, Igando.
He said that the accused sold the ill-gotten fuel cheaply at the black market.
Adeleye said that the offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The two accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Section 285 (5) provides seven years maximum sentence for convicted offenders.
The Magistrate, Mr P E Nwaka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case till Aug. 7 for mention
