Nigerian Army Arrests Fake Soldier In PH
The Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt has arrested a 27-year old fake soldier at Nembe waterside, in the old Port Harcourt township.
The man who identified himself as Idi Shagari said he hailed from Kasuwa-bira in Taraba State.
Mr Idi was caught at Nembe Waterside where he was putting – on army uniform.
Malam Shagari said he came to Port Harcourt to see his brother Mr Augustine Idi who is working with the Nigerian Police, Mopol 48.
Items recovered from him include one first bank cheque book, Ramat Polytechnic security I.D. card, one skye bank scratch card and one unity bank scratch card.
In an interview, the army Public Relations Officer (PRO) Major A. Iliyasu said the army acting on a tip-off arrested the purported soldier on uniform who later confessed that he wore the uniform to enjoy a free ride to Port Harcourt.
According to Major Iliyasu, the fake soldier confessed stealing the army uniform at a barrack in Taraba State.
The Army spokesman therefore enjoined the public to report any suspected person whether on uniform or not to the nearest army location or police station.
He said the army will not spare even a genuine soldier that commits any offence or that would bring the integrity of the Nigerian army into disrepute.
