Sea Truck Unit Elects NEW Exco
The Sea Truck Unit of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Rivers State has inaugurated a 14 member Executive with comrade Tomboitemea Ekine as chairman, Micheal Amadi-vice and Afinidi Job as secretary among others.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held in Port Harcourt over the weekend, the Branch President of seafarers, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Seamen and Water Transports Owners of the Union, Comrade Francis Bunu urged them not to be confrontational but use dialogue in settling disputes.
Comrade Bunu said they should be a little to the right and little to the left as well as respect the authorities, adding that they should not compromise the welfare of the workers which is their paramount objective as a union.
Also speaking, the Zonal Vice Goodswill President, Comrade admonished the members to ensure that they support and co-operate with the new executive so that the state would maintain its enviable position in maritime business, saying that election is not a do or due affair but when they serve well, the sky would be their limit.
In his own speech, the state chairman at Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) the umbrella body of seafarers, seamen, NIWA and water Transport, Comrade Jonah Jumbo enjoined them to work as a team to enable business activities to grow as the company is regarded as one of the companies that is making maritime industry to grow in the state, advising them to maintain their position and maintain the peaceful business atmosphere.
Comrade Jumbo admonished the new executive to carry all workers along, maintain its position as Sea Truck Unit is a force to reckon with in the union, work in consonance with the constitution of the union and forge ahead to achieve set goals, adding that the executive should fight for the interest of the workers so that they would have more followership, be patience and shun rumour mongering.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman of Sea Truck unit of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Rivers State, Comrade Tombo itemea Ekine assured that with the support of all, he would succeed the enormous task bestoved on them, and thanked all for giving him the mandate to serve them.
Comrade Ekine assured of taking the union to greater height and pledged to serve them better to the glory of God, and also thanked the executive for making the day a huge success, assuring them of their co-operation and support.
