Toby, Others Extol Late Sampson Adoki Virtues
Former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Toby was among dignitaries at 45th remembrance anniversary ceremony of the paramount ruler of Okrika late Chief Sampson Igobo Adoki at Okrika last Sunday.
Paying tribute to the late monarch, Sir Toby described him as “a man of dignity and self respect who was committed to the leadership of his people”.
He called on modern chieftaincy institutions to learn from the forebears who offered selfless service, and used the traditional institution for peaceful arbitration and leadership.
In his tribute, the Amanyanabo of Ogoloma, HRM Obudibo Ikwo described the late monarch as a man who led Okrika communities with tremendous courage, integrity and statesmanship, and urged the people of Okrika to be concerned about how to improve on his legacies.
Unveiling a book on the life and times of the late monarch, written by Ven B.A. Obuforibo, renowed Historian and Professor, Tekena Tamuno described the late monarch as a great leader who fought for the liberation of the Niger Delta.
Prof. Tekena, said the legacies of the great monarch can only be sustained through the enthronement of transparent and committed leadership among the people.
In his remark, chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Elder Amabipi Martins, said the late monarch was a man of outstanding attribute deserving of the celebration, and thanked the people for giving him the honour.
Speaking on behalf of the Adoki family, the son of the late monarch, Chief Nemi Adoki thanked the guests for honouring the late monarch, noting that the late Chief Adoki contributed in no mean measure towards the development of Okrika during his reign.
Chief Nemi Adoki, who is the Chairman of Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs, said the legacies of the late monarch will be sustained.
Other dignitaries include Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, member representing Okrika/Ogu Bolo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bight Gogo, while the unveiling of the monument of the late monarch was done by Bishop Tubokosemie Abere of Anglican Diocese of Okrika.
