Build Above Water Level -Expert
A university don, Prof. Ndowa Lale of the University of Port Harcourt has said that predictions by meteorological agencies in the country on the 2013 flooding were confirmations of the realities of climate change.
Prof. Lale of the Department of Agriculture who spoke to our correspondent over the weekend said climate change was a natural phenomenon which was beyond human control.
“Climate change is a natural phenomenon what we need to do is be prepared” he said.
He said one needs not to be told were to build a house as the realities differ.
He advised developers to take into consideration in raising their foundations above the water level where the area was prone to flooding.
“If you build, you want to ensure that you raise the foundation to a reasonable level so that hopefully you will not be sacked totally when the flood comes” he said.
The Professor of Animal and Environmental Biology further advised that the fight against flooding was the responsibility of all.
