Civil Service Indispensable To Good Governance – Imoke
Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has said that the civil service is an indispensable institution for the purpose of running an effective government.
This was contained in an address the Governor delivered during the celebration of Cross River State Civil and Public Service Day at Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar.
The Governor said the Civil Service should reflect discipline by adopting a sense of standards of ethics, adding that the joy of a civil and public servant is to effectively serve the State.
Imoke emphasized that every Civil or Public Servant should be prepared to work hard and should try to be globally competent so as not to be intimidated by colleagues outside the country.
He maintained that civil and public service existed for the purpose of serving the State, to this end, the civil service must create an environment for continuous learning and it must also do all it can to embrace opportunities and acknowledgement of perception of citizens.
Senator Imoke implored the Civil Servants to see the Service Day as an opportunity to examine themselves and see how to serve the citizens effectively.
On his part, Mr. Brian Ekpong (KSJ), the Chairman of the occasion and also the Chairman, Civil Service Commission said as an Institution, it is important for the Civil Service to focus on itself at least once in a year, adding that it is important to celebrate the Civil Service since it constitutes a large number of the working force.
Also speaking, Head of Service, Ntunkae (Mrs) Theresa Ikwen in her welcome address expressed gratitude to God Almighty for making the occasion successful and gave a brief history of the Civil Service Day.
