Customs Partner EFCC On Anti Corruption Drive
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption at the nation’s ports, border stations and airports.
The Controller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi and the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Mallam Ibrahim Lamorde will as part of the collaboration, lead their senior officers and operatives in a joint road walk exercise in Abuja.
The joint walk is aimed at sensitising the public and enhancing the collaboration between both agencies against the anti economic vices of corruption.
The walk is expected to enjoy solidarity participation of sister agencies of government like The Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC). Alhaji Abdullahi said the Customs has over the years been at the forefront of the government’s anti corruption drive and will continue to do everything possible to eradicate human barriers to the attainment of 48hour clearance time of cargo.
The Comptroller General enjoined shipping companies and their agents to desist from importation of goods and commodities contained in the government’s Import Prohibition List, and make sincere declarations of their imports.
The service, according to him, will always be open to stakeholders to ensure attainment of 48 hour cargo clearance.
He reiterated that the service has automated its operations with the creation of an ICT Ruling Centre which has trained some customs officers on various aspects of customs modernisation processes like valuation classification, final document verification, risk profiling and many more, adding that customs had recently developed a Pre Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) mode to address possible increase in the volume of cargo and quicken clearance time.
