NDU Tasks Firms On Hostels, Lecture Halls
The Vice Chancellor of Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma, Bayelsa State , Prof Humphrey Ogoni has appealed to corporate organizations in the state to build more hostels and lecture halls in the institution as part of their contribution towards manpower development in the country.
He made the appeal Wednesday during the commissioning of lecture halls built by the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners at NDU campus, Amassoma.
The Vice Chancellor stated that part of the challenge facing the institution was lack of hostels, inadequate lecture halls and other infrastructures.
The VC commended NAOC for bailing the schools out and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture assuring that the structure would be judiciously utilised.
The Baylesa State Ministry of Environment representative, Ezekiel Adike, lauded NAOC for complementing the state government’s efforts toward providing a conducive learning environment in schools.
Speaking at the occasion, the Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Engr Chinaka Mac Nwogu said the project was a fruit of partnership aimed at complementing government’s drive towards providing qualitative education and other basic infrastructures to the citizenry.
Representative of Alliance Oil PSC, Chief Samuel Onyenwe of OANDO, said the project was supported by the body with a view to improving the quality of education in the country.
NAOC General Manager District, Massimo Insulla represented by the Public Relations, Communication and Government Liaison Manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, said the investment in education in host communities was a testament of the importance the NAOC/NNPC and its PSC partners attached to education as the bedrock of development.
He said that the project would go a long way in facilitating the growth of education, and advised the beneficiary to strengthen and sustain the cordial relationship between NAOC/NNPC and its PSC partners and NDU, urging the school to maintain peace so as to attract more development projects.
