No Compensation For Ilegal Land Development -Cookey-Gam
Residents of Woji town in Port Harcourt have been warned against illegal development as Rivers State Government will not pay compensation for unauthorised development.
The Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, stated this during a combined visit by the Authority and the State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, to the new development area in Woji.
Mrs. Cookey-Gam and the Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr.Tammy Danagogo expressed dismay at the high rate of unstructured development in the area, as some fences were built close to the drainage constructed for the new road.
Dr. Danagogo emphasised that notices had been served on erring developers and further directed that fresh notices, would be served while the new developments encroaching on the road reserve are marked for removal to give way for a proposed service lane next to the freeway. The new Trans-Woji road project has two bridges and one interchange running through the new development area in Woji Town.
In a joint statement, endorsed by Cookey-Gam and Danagogo, they enjoined members of the public to seek relevant building and development plan approvals from either the State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning or the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority offices before embarking on such developments.
The team consisted of the Directors of Development Control and other officers from GPHCDA and the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning.
